Marie-Antoinette’s dark and milk chocolate pistoles. An assortment of flavors: 74% dark chocolate from Madagascar, 66% dark chocolate from Ecuador with real Bourbon vanilla, verbena, orange blossom, ginger, milk chocolate, and almond milk chocolate. To help Queen Marie-Antoinette with her headaches, the pharmacist Sulpice Debauve created the first bite-sized chocolate in history by mixing chocolate with medicine to make the taste more pleasant.The queen, charmed by the creation, named these medallions “Pistoles.” According to Sulpice Debauve, each recipe possesses a beneficial property, true to his motto, “Utile Dulci!” Each pistole is engraved with a design inspired by the queen’s jewelry collection.
